Outer Reef Surf Camp Cantabria, Spain

Cantabria Surf Camp, Spain

Outer Reef Cantabria is based on Spain’s northern coast, surrounded by green countryside and close to wide Atlantic beaches known for consistent surf and a relaxed local scene. It’s a quieter, more spacious part of Spain, ideal for surfers looking to slow down and settle into a steady rhythm of surf, rest and time outdoors.

The camp is set up as an open, social space with room to surf, move, eat together and switch off in the evenings. Days revolve around the ocean, while afternoons and nights are spent around the pool, shared areas and surrounding nature.

The camp is open from May to September, offering a seasonal surf experience shaped by good waves, long days and an easygoing northern Spain atmosphere.

Close to nature

Accommodation

Accommodation at Outer Reef Cantabria is simple, outdoorsy and social, designed to keep you close to nature while staying comfortable between surf sessions. The camp has a relaxed, communal layout where shared spaces and open air living are part of the experience.

All accommodation options use shared bathroom facilities, with the focus on easy, practical living rather than hotel style separation.

Glamping Tents

Glamping tents offer the most comfort while keeping an outdoor feel. These are well suited to couples and families who want a bit more space to unwind after surf sessions, while still being fully part of camp life.

Shared Tents

Shared tents are a flexible, social option and work well for friends, families and solo travellers. They’re ideal if you enjoy shared spaces and a relaxed atmosphere, making it easy to connect with other guests during your stay.

WHAT’S WAITING FOR YOU AT OUR SURF CAMP

Outer Reef Cantabria is as much about shared experiences as it is about surfing. The camp brings together people from all over the world, creating an easy, social atmosphere where days are shaped by the ocean and evenings are spent eating, talking and unwinding together.

Beyond the beach, Cantabria offers huge variety. One day you might be surfing consistent Atlantic beach breaks, the next hiking through the green mountains of the Picos de Europa or cycling along the rugged coastline. The weekly plan stays flexible, giving you the freedom to join in as much or as little as you like.

This part of northern Spain is defined by contrast. White sandy beaches sit alongside rolling green hills, while historic towns, coastal villages and cultural landmarks add depth to the experience. From medieval streets and ancient cave art to iconic architecture like El Capricho de Gaudí, there’s plenty to explore between surf sessions.

Food plays a big role in camp life. Cantabria is known for its fresh seafood, local cheeses and excellent wines, and shared meals are a highlight of the week. Local gourmet picnics, relaxed concerts at camp and sunset moments by the pool bring everyone together, rounding out a surf experience that feels balanced, open and memorable.

About Our Camp

Surf Coaching & Guiding at Cantabria Surf Camps, Spain

Surfing in Cantabria is shaped by open beaches, Atlantic energy and space to progress at your own pace. Our surf coaching and guiding is built around structure without pressure, giving you clear pathways to improve while still leaving room to enjoy the wider camp experience. With small groups, experienced instructors and flexible course options, sessions are designed to support steady progression in a calm, supportive environment.

How The Surf Sessions Work

Our surf coaching in Cantabria is structured around three clear progression levels, combined with flexible course options so you can choose how intensively you want to surf during your stay. Groups are organised by level on the beach to keep sessions safe, supportive and enjoyable.

The Surf Coaches & Guides

The surf team at Outer Reef Cantabria is made up of experienced instructors who know the local beach breaks and conditions well. Their approach is supportive, clear and structured, focusing on creating a positive learning environment both in and out of the water.

Coaches work closely with guests throughout the week, adjusting sessions to conditions and group needs. Whether you’re starting out or looking to refine your surfing, instruction is delivered calmly and with plenty of practical feedback.

Progression & Support

Progression at the camp is steady and well paced, with coaching adapted to each surfer’s level and goals. Sessions build gradually, allowing time to practise, reflect and improve without rushing the process.

Support continues beyond the water through theory elements, surf-skate sessions, fitness training and video analysis at higher levels. This combination helps reinforce learning and gives surfers a clearer understanding of how to progress over the course of their stay.

Equipment

Surf equipment is selected to suit Cantabria’s beach break conditions and the needs of different levels. Boards are provided during surf sessions, allowing you to focus on learning and progression without worrying about logistics.

For additional free surf, equipment can be used on site, and the surf team is always available to advise on board choice to match conditions, ability and surf goals.

BEGINNER SURFER

Cantabria is a great place to start surfing if you’re new to the ocean. Wide sandy beaches and space to practise make it easier to learn without pressure. Sessions focus on building confidence, understanding the sea and enjoying the process of catching your first waves in a relaxed, supportive setting.

INTERMEDIATE SURFER

Ideal if you already have some surf experience and want to become more consistent. Coaching helps you understand conditions, improve timing and feel more comfortable surfing unbroken waves. Cantabria’s changing Atlantic conditions provide a valuable learning environment for developing confidence and control.

ADVANCED SURFER

For surfers who are confident in the water and looking to refine technique rather than learn the basics. With powerful beach breaks and varied conditions, advanced surfers can focus on positioning, flow and adapting their surfing to the Atlantic, making the most of time in the water.
