Surf Camp Padang Padang Bali - Outer Reef

Waves, Adventure, And Local Expertise

About Your Surf Camp At Padang Padang Bali, Indonesia

The bay on the north-western side of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula may have drawn international attention after appearing in Eat, Pray, Love, but long before the film, Padang Padang had already earned its reputation among surfers. What truly defines this stretch of coastline isn’t its moment in the spotlight, but the consistent quality of its waves, which continue to attract surfers from across the globe.

Surfing At Padang Padang

Padang Padang remains a place that feels shaped by surfers, rather than crowds. The breaks are reliable year-round, and the setting still holds onto a sense of calm, framed by cliffs and raw coastal scenery. More advanced surfers are drawn to the powerful left, while those looking for something more approachable often prefer Padang Padang Right. When the surf slows, hopping on a scooter makes it easy to check nearby breaks or simply take in more of Bali’s dramatic landscapes.

WHAT’S WAITING FOR YOU AT OUR SURF CAMP

The Padang Padang surf camp is designed as a comfortable base where you can slow down between surf sessions. Accommodation ranges from shared dorms to private bungalows and villas, all set within quiet Balinese gardens. The rooms and shared facilities are simple, spacious, and practical everything you need to settle in and focus on surf, rest, and recovery. In the communal spaces, it’s easy to spend time with other surfers, whether that’s a casual game of pool or cooling off in the pool after a long day in the water.

What to expect during your stay

Daily yoga sessions are part of life at the camp, offering a chance to stretch tired muscles, reset, and unwind after time in the ocean.

Evenings often revolve around shared meals prepared by the camp chefs, Sunny and Made. Their menus mix local dishes with familiar international flavors, with options for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets. Dinner becomes a natural moment to slow down, refuel, and swap stories from the day’s surf.

About Our Camp

Surf Coaching & Guiding At Padang Padang Surf camps, Bali

Surfing at Padang Padang is all about timing, precision, and understanding a world-class reef break. With tides, swell direction, and wind playing a huge role, each session is planned around when the wave is at its best, rather than following a fixed schedule.

Your time in the water blends focused surf coaching with guided free surf, depending on your level and the conditions. Some days are dedicated to technique, positioning, and reading the reef, while others are about making the most of prime conditions logging quality waves, building confidence, and experiencing Padang Padang at its best.

How The Surf Sessions Work

Surf days naturally follow the rhythm of the conditions. After checking swell, wind, and tides, the surf team selects the most suitable spot for the group and level.

Beginners and progressing surfers join structured surf lessons, where the focus is on:

  • Understanding the ocean
  • Improving technique and positioning
  • Catching more waves with confidence

For more confident surfers, sessions may shift towards guided surf, where coaching continues but with more freedom to explore different sections of the beach and changing conditions.

Groups stay small, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the aim is always the same: more waves, better waves, and a good time in the water.

The Surf Coaches & Guides

The surf team is made up of qualified instructors and experienced local surfers who know the Peniche and Baleal coastline inside out. They’re in the water with you, offering tips, encouragement, and practical feedback when it matters most.

Beyond technique, they help you learn how to read the ocean, understand conditions, and feel comfortable navigating busy line ups and changing beach breaks. Safety is a priority at all times, with careful attention to tides, currents, and entry and exit points.

Progression & Support

Progression happens naturally through time in the water, supported by coaching, optional video analysis, and relaxed theory sessions during the week.

Some sessions are filmed and reviewed to help you better understand your surfing and spot small changes that can make a big difference. Theory sessions cover topics like wave selection, surf etiquette, and ocean awareness, and are always optional.

You can choose how much structure you want, keeping the experience flexible and pressure free.

Equipment

A selection of surfboards is available on site, covering a range of shapes and sizes for different levels and conditions, from beginner-friendly boards to more performance-focused options. Leashes and rash guards are included.

Optional surfboard insurance is available to cover accidental damage during your stay. Lost boards or missing equipment are not covered.

BEGINNER SURFER

If you’re new to surfing, sessions are built around supportive, structured lessons in safe, forgiving conditions. The focus is on understanding the ocean, learning the basics at a comfortable pace, and building confidence wave by wave.

Everything is explained clearly, with plenty of time in the water and hands on guidance to help you feel relaxed and confident from the start.

INTERMEDIATE SURFER

Intermediate surfers enjoy a mix of coached sessions and freer surfing, allowing room to refine technique, improve wave selection, and become more consistent.

With a variety of beach breaks nearby, sessions can adapt to conditions, giving you the chance to try different waves and continue progressing throughout the week.

ADVANCED SURFER

For experienced surfers, the focus shifts towards guided sessions with targeted coaching. You’ll surf in conditions that suit your level, with the opportunity to explore more demanding waves when conditions allow.

The surf team is there to support your progression, offering feedback, local knowledge, and insight into timing, positioning, and decision making in the water.

Emma, 35, Netherlands:
"Before joining, I had been surfing for 7 years and I was struggling to improve. The level of coaching in surf camps was usually disappointing. I didn't understand what I was doing wrong and surfing was becoming frustrating. Everything changed when I joined the Surf Academy. I improved more in 12 weeks than in the previous 7 years, and it completely transformed my surfing. Not only that, I met amazing people during this time, many of whom I have met again in the water. Best money I ever spent!"
