Macaronis Surf Resort Mentawai Islands

Remote Island Surf Stay Mentawais, Indonesia

Set on a remote island near Silabu in the Mentawai Islands, this is a surf trip built around uncrowded surroundings, easy downtime, and quick access to world-class reef breaks by boat.

You’ll stay in comfortable, hot-climate rooms with A/C and hot water, refuel with included meals, and reset between sessions with space to relax and recover.

It works brilliantly for surfers who want maximum water time, but it’s also a strong option for mixed groups thanks to lagoon activities and chill island living.

Tell us your dates and who’s in your group, and we’ll shape the trip around your level, goals and season.

Accommodation

Your Mentawai island accommodation is designed for surf recovery and proper sleep. Expect air conditioning, en suite bathrooms with hot water, in room Wi Fi, and open verandas with sea, lagoon, or pool views. Suites are elevated for more breeze and privacy, and the layout keeps everything close to meals, the pool, and the boats.

Twin Share Deluxe Suite

Located on the second floor of the main building, with ocean, lagoon, and pool views. Each suite has a veranda with seating and privacy shades, plus good insulation so rooms stay cool and quiet. Great for friends, couples, or solo travellers sharing.

Family Sized Deluxe Suite

Set near the pool and tropical gardens, with extra space to spread out. Family suites can be arranged to suit your group and can work for up to four when travelling with children, using an extra fold up bed. A solid choice for mixed groups where not everyone is surfing all day.

Private Villa Option

For extra privacy, villa style stays are available within the property, tucked among tropical gardens and still a short walk from the main resort facilities. Ideal if you want a quieter base while keeping the same easy access to meals, boats, and downtime areas.

WHAT’S WAITING FOR YOU AT OUR SURF RESORT

This is the kind of Mentawai trip that feels properly remote, but still comfortable. You wake up to ocean air, grab a solid breakfast, then plan your surf around what the day is doing rather than forcing a fixed timetable. Between sessions you can slow everything down, good food, time by the pool, and space to properly recover so you are ready for the next tide.

It also works well for mixed groups. If only some of you are surfing, there is still plenty to do on the island, relaxed lagoon time, snorkelling, paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, and easy exploring when you want a change of pace.

When you enquire with Outer Reef, we keep it simple and personal. Tell us your dates, who is travelling, and the level of the surfers in your group, and we will recommend the best fit rooms and the best way to get there, with clear expectations from day one.

About Our Camp

Surf Coaching & Guiding at Mentawai Islands Surf Resort Silabu, North Pagai

Surfing here is built around reef breaks and boat access, so the week is planned by tide, swell, and wind, not a fixed timetable. This setup suits confident surfers who want quality waves and plenty of water time, and it can also work for newer surfers when conditions are right, using a more sheltered option nearby.

How The Surf Sessions Work

Surf sessions are planned each day around the best tide windows and the most suitable break for your level. Boats are used for access to the main reef and other nearby breaks, and on the right days there can be longer runs to explore further spots.

When you enquire, tell us your level and what you want from the trip, progression, performance, or just fun, and we will recommend the best session plan for your dates, with clear expectations on wave type and difficulty.

The Surf Coaches & Guides

Guiding support is there to help with timing, wave choice, and reef safety, especially if you are new to this kind of setup. On selected dates, structured coaching weeks can be available, which may include technique focus and video review. If you want coaching, let us know early so we can check what is running during your travel window.

Progression & Support

Progression in the Mentawais is about more than just turns, it is reading reef breaks, understanding tide changes, and choosing the right take off zone. Coaching and guidance focuses on smart positioning, better wave selection, and building confidence in reef environments.

If you want it, we can also build a simple plan for the week, what to focus on, what conditions suit you best, and how to step things up safely as your confidence grows.

Equipment

Most surfers bring their own boards for a better fit, but board options can be arranged if you want to travel lighter. For beginners, learner boards can usually be organised for the more sheltered sessions.

What to bring for comfort and safety:

  • Reef booties if you like extra protection

  • A good rash vest, plus sun protection

  • Spare leash, spare fins, fin key, and basic ding repair items

  • Any preferred first aid basics for reef cuts and rubs

BEGINNER SURFER

Best if you are new to surfing or want a gentle start. Beginner sessions focus on safety, board control, paddling, and standing up consistently in a more forgiving, sheltered wave option. The goal is simple, catch lots of waves, build confidence, and leave the trip with solid foundations.

INTERMEDIATE SURFER

Perfect if you can already catch waves and want to become more consistent. We focus on wave selection, take off positioning, speed control, and improving your turns, while building confidence in reef environments. This is where most surfers make the biggest jump on a trip like this.

ADVANCED SURFER

For confident surfers who are comfortable on reef breaks and want higher quality waves. The focus is timing, positioning, and performance, making the most of the best tide windows and choosing the right break for the conditions. If your goal is to surf harder and faster waves, we will help you plan the week so you get the best sessions without forcing it.
