MORE ABOUT KATHY KOHNER AKA GIDGET
JANUARY 19, 1941 - LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA

Kathy Kohner Zuckerman is the real-life inspiration for the fictional character of Franzie (nicknamed Gidget) from the 1957 novel Gidget: The Little Girl with Big Ideas. She is the daughter of European Jewish immigrants from Czechoslovakian, who worked as a screenwriter for the German film industry until 1933 - growing up in Brentwood, Los Angeles, spending much of her childhood on the beaches at Malibu. Her Surfing started at age 15, sometimes trading her peanut butter and radish sandwiches for chances to ride. She associated with such influential surfers as Miki Dora, Mickey Munoz, Dewey Weber, and Tom Morey.

Based on what Kohner told her father about her exploits in Malibu and the journal of her trips there, which her father discovered, he wrote Gidget: The Little Girl with Big Ideas

Kohner-Zuckerman still surfs annually to benefit a cancer charity. She was named No. 7 in Surfer Magazine's 25 Most Influential People in Surfing.

In 2008 she was inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Later, in 2011 into the Surfing Walk of Fame in Huntington Beach, California, in the Woman of the Year category.

SEAN

Sean Collins, the father of surf forecasting, has changed all wave riders life forever; thanks to Sean, we can predict surfing conditions and choose the perfect timing and beaches to have awesome rides. This room for five located on the first floor has two comfy bunks plus a single bed, private lockers and the cherry on top of the cake: a private balcony where you can chill, sunbathe or have a chat with your newly made friends. Two bathrooms just outside are shared with two other rooms.

MORE ABOUT SEAN COLLINS
APRIL 8, 1952 - DECEMBER 26, 2011 - PASADENA, CALIFORNIA, USA

Sean was the American founder of Surfline and one of the most relevant Surfing and surf forecasting people.

Collins' early experiences sailing with his father instilled a passion for the Ocean and meteorology. Much of his knowledge of meteorology was self-taught.

In the early years of Collins' surf forecasting, he would record weather reports and forecasts from the Southern Hemisphere and studied charts and data from the National Weather Service library. By comparing this data with his observations of the surf, he devised formulas for predicting how global weather events would affect near-shore surf conditions; eventually, he combined these models into a set of swell-modelling algorithms nicknamed "LOLA".

In the late 70s, he converted marine weather forecasting equipment to use in his car, to get advanced knowledge of where swells and offshore weather patterns were developing - later using that information to find the best Surf locations.

In 1985, Collin's founded a surf report service called Surfline. The company started as a call-in service, which provided verbal condition reports for various surf breaks around Southern California. Still, in 1995, Surfline moved online, offering live video streams of surf breaks in addition to written surf reports. Surfline eventually expanded to provide Surfing editorial coverage and is now one of the most prominent websites related to the sport.

NOVEMBER 7, 1948 - HONOLULU, HAWAII, USA

He frequented the semi-secret reefs in and around Aina Haina and better-known surf spots in Honolulu, becoming the Hawaii State Champ at age 14 and began surfing Ala Moana Bowls frequently. It is here that Lopez began honing his casual style and masterful tube riding skills.

He was widely recognised as the best tube rider in the world and won the Pipeline Masters competition in 1972 and 1973, which was pseudo-named the Gerry Lopez Pipeline Masters until the passing of Andy Irons.

In 1999, he was selected as "Waterman of the Year" by the Surf Industries Manufacturing Association (SIMA).

Lopez played an essential role in the industry of commercial surfboard manufacturing. While in Hawaii, and together with other shapers, Lopez started the Lightning Bolt Surfboards brand of high-performance shortboards. Lopez created the eye-catching but straightforward Lightning Bolt jag, which became extremely popular in the 1970s. This brand was the first to sponsor team riders with free boards, partially because many riders didn't have the money to buy them.

He has also appeared in numerous surfing documentaries, including Five Summer Stories (1973), Tales From The TubeStep Into Liquid (2003), and Riding Giants (2004). Lopez also appears on YouTube in Patagonia sponsored "Talkin' Pipe" series, where they describe their harrowing and sometimes humorous early experiences at the Pipeline.

He was introduced to Surfing by his mother, Alexandra, who is a surfer herself. With his mother's help, Florence first rode on a surfboard when he was six months old, and he was surfing on his own by the age of five.

MORE ABOUT DUKE KAHANAMOKU
AUGUST 24, 1890 - JANUARY 22, 1968 - HONOLULU, HAWAII, USA

He was an American and Native Hawaiian competition swimmer who mainstreamed the ancient Hawaiian sport of Surfing.

Growing up on the outskirts of Waikiki, Kahanamoku spent his youth as a bronzed beach boy. At Waikiki Beach, he developed his Surfing and swimming skills. In his youth, Kahanamoku preferred a traditional surfboard, which he called his "Papa Nui", constructed after the fashion of ancient Hawaiian "olo" boards. Made from a koa tree's wood, it was 16 feet (4.9 m) long and weighed 114 pounds (52 kg). The surfboard had no skeg. In his later career, he would often use smaller boards but always preferred those made of wood.

He was the first person inducted into both the Swimming Hall of Fame (for his achievements in the Olympics) and the Surfing Hall of Fame. The Duke Kahanamoku Invitational Surfing Championships in Hawaii, the first major professional surfing contest event ever held in the massive surf on the North Shore of Oahu, was named in his honour.

DOUBLE BED | 2 PEOPLE

CAPTAIN JACK

This Bungalow is our tribute to Jack O'Neill, an entrepreneur of the Surf Industry and believed to be one of the wetsuit inventors. This Bungalow for two has a couple's bedroom, a private bathroom, a kitchen, an eating area, and an extra room to relax. Ideal for couples who want a bit more privacy and independence from the main house is also a favourite for families, who can request a set up for an additional bed.

MORE ABOUT JACK O'NEILL
MARCH 27, 1923 - JUNE 2, 2017 - DENVER, COLORADO, USA

O'Neill grew up in Oregon and southern California, where he began body surfing in the late 1930s. He was a Navy pilot during World War II. O'Neill later moved to San Francisco in 1949 and earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts.

In 1952, he founded the O'Neill brand while opening one of California's first surf shops in a garage, close to his favourite bodysurfing break at the time, leading to establishing a company that deals in wetsuits, surf gear, and clothing. Jack O'Neill's name is attached to surfwear and his brand of surfing equipment. Although some believe that he is the inventor of the wetsuit, some contradict this theory. One thing is sure the contribution of Jack O'Neill gave to the wetsuit industry is unparallel.

In December 1996, he began a non-profit organization called O'Neill Sea Odyssey, which provides students with hands-on lessons in marine biology and teaches the relationship between the oceans and the environment.
